Question:One farmer applied a pesticide with a 21-day waiting period. He begins to harvest after 14 days. The time between application and harvesting was not 21 days and the pre-harvest interval was not correct. The product was harvested and it was clear that it was stored for at least 4 months on the farm. Does the storage on the farm count in pre-harvest interval? Answer:Regarding the compliance criteria of control point 8.4.1 for EUREPGAP certification of Fruit & Vegetables the farmer has to demonstrate that all pre-harvest intervals have been observed for crop protection products applied to the crops, through the use of clear documented procedures such as crop protection product application records and crop harvest dates from treated locations. Specifically in continuous harvesting situations, there are systems in place in the field, orchard or greenhouse, e.g. warning signs etc., to ensure fail safe compliance. The pre-harvest intervals are specified from the producer of the used crop protection product and have to be followed in any case. The pre-harvest interval is defined as the period from application of the pesticide to the day of harvest. Storage on the farm cannot be included in this interval. Back |
